lTo To quote from Duo Security's guide to Duo Restore, "Duo Mobile's restore functionality lets you back up Duo-protected accounts and third-party OTP accounts (such as Google or Facebook) for recovery to the same device or to a new device."

This article will focus on the steps for setting up and using Duo Restore for your Drew account, though anyone who uses Duo for other services (or schools) with this feature enabled will see the benefit on those accounts as well.

Things to Know


Expand

You can lose your phone or do a factory reset and use this - if you've set it up and iCloud has the backup.



Expand

You have to have both a new phone and the old (already activated) phone, as well as a Google backup.

Do not choose your Drew account as your backup account.


Enable Restore

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Click [Your Name] at the top.
  3. Click iCloud.
  4. Scroll down and click iCloud Back up to open the sub-menu.
  5. Switch the ON button for automatic iCloud Backups if it is not on (will turn green). (iCloud will automatically back up when your iPhone is connected to the WIFI, locked, and charging).
  6. Click "Back Up Now".

  1. Open Duo Mobile app.
  2. Click the 3 dot/line menu.
  3. Choose Settings.
  4. Choose Duo Restore.
  5. Toggle "Backup accounts with Google Drive" on.
  6. Choose the Google account to use for backup.
    If you plan to use
      1. We recommend not using your Drew account
    , look into
      1. . Google's work profiles
    . They may
      1. affect how easily you can access the backup when setting up your new phone.
    1. Select Allow.


    Restore

    You only need the new phone (or factory reset phone) to follow these steps.

    1. Sign in to iCloud on your new iOS device and restore from an iCloud backup.
    2. Enable iCloud Keychain.
    3. Download the Duo Mobile app on your new device.
    4. Open Duo Mobile and tap Get Started on the "Welcome back" screen.

    5. Duo Mobile locates your backed-up Duo-protected accounts and restores them to your device, showing a success message when complete.
    6. Duo also sends a push notification that accounts were activated on a new device to your old phone. If you receive this notification and you didn't just perform a restore,
    tap 
    1. tap "Report as Fraud". This deactivates your Duo accounts on both devices and alerts your organization's Duo administrators about the fraudulent reactivation. To dismiss this notification on your old phone,
    tap 
    1. tap "This is not fraud".

    You need both the new phone and the old phone to follow these steps.

    1. Install Duo Mobile on the new phone.
    2. Open Duo Mobile on the new phone.
    3. Select GET MY ACCOUNT BACK.

      1. If this option is not there, follow steps above to turn on restore on the new phone. It will check for existing backups and then you can continue with step 6 below.
    4. Choose the same Google account you used for backup.
    5. Select Allow.
    6. At the beginning of the reconnection process, you'll be asked if you have your old phone. Tap Yes to continue.
    7. Open Duo Mobile on your old phone, and tap the 3 dot/line menu icon
    in the top right
    1. to open Settings.
    2. Locate the "Connect a new phone" settings item, and tap VIEW QR CODE. 
    3. Return to your new phone, and tap SCAN THE QR CODE in step 3 or SCAN in the lower left, then scan the QR code** shown on your old phone to complete account restoration.

    4. Duo Mobile locates your backed-up Duo-protected accounts and restores them to your device, showing a success message when complete (and letting you know that you can longer approve logins using your old phone).

    ** You may be prompted to give the app permission to use the camera. Grant this permission to proceed.
